Oncology Treatments

New developments and advances are constantly being made in the field of oncology treatments. Some recent examples include:

1. Immunotherapy: This is a type of cancer treatment that uses the body’s own immune system to fight cancer. There have been many recent advances in this field, including the development of new immunotherapeutic agents and the discovery of new biomarkers that can predict a patient’s response to treatment.

2. Precision Medicine: This approach involves the use of genomic and molecular data to tailor cancer treatments to a patient’s individual tumour characteristics. Recent advances in technology have made it easier to obtain and analyse this data, leading to the development of more personalised treatment options.

3. CAR-T Therapy: This is a type of immunotherapy that involves altering the patient’s T cells (a type of immune cell) to target and kill cancer cells. CAR-T therapy has shown promising results in treating certain types of blood cancer.

4. Liquid Biopsies: These are blood tests that can detect cancer DNA circulating in the bloodstream. This allows doctors to monitor a patient’s cancer more closely and make more informed treatment decisions.

5. Nanoparticle Based Therapies: Nanoparticles are tiny particles that can be designed to target and deliver drugs directly to cancer cells. This approach has the potential to reduce side effects and increase the effectiveness of cancer treatments.

Overall, the field of oncology is constantly evolving and there are many exciting new developments in cancer treatment. These developments offer hope for better outcomes and improved quality of life for cancer patients.

Head And Neck Tumors

Cancers of the head and neck can form in the: Oral cavity, throat, voice box, paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity, throid gland and salivary glands. Head and neck cancer treatment can include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, or a combination of treatments. The treatment plan for an individual patient depends on a number of factors, including the location of the tumor, the stage of the cancer, and the person’s age and general health.

Gastrointestinal Tumors

Esophagel, stomach, colorectal, pancreas, liver tumors are among gastrointestinal cancers. Most of the time, symptoms of gastrointestinal cancers don’t occur until the tumor has become more advanced. Detecting and treating these cancers takes a team, including gastroenterologists, specialized gastrointestinal cancer surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and interventional radiology. We understand that every patient is different because every tumour is different.

Gynecologic Tumors

Gynecologic cancer is any cancer that starts in a woman`s reproductive organs and genitals The five main types of gynecologic cancer are: cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar. Each gynecologic cancer is unique, with different signs and symptoms, different risk factors and different prevention strategies. Minimal invasive valve replacement technigue is guite new and offers less pain, lower risk of infection, and shorter hospitalization time for the recovery. This unique technique offers same efficacy, quality and safety of the open heart surgery.

Urologic Tumors

Urologic cancers are growths of abnormal cells that form in the organs of the urinary tract in both men and women. It includes kidneys, uretra, bladder in both gender as well as testicles, prostate, penis of the male reproductive system You will receive personal, evidence-based treatment tailored to your type and stage of urologic cancer. Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, second only to skin cancer. About 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. There`s a good chance of recovery if it`s detected at an early stage. There are several breast cancer treatment options, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy and targeted drug therapy. Surgery is usually the first type of treatment you`ll have, followed by chemotherapy or radiotherapy or, in some cases, hormone or targeted treatments. Your therapy will be planned according to the location and size of the tumor, presence of spread pathological results. People with early-stage breast cancer often manage their condition successfully with treatment. Many people who’ve received a breast cancer diagnosis go on to live long, fulfilling lives. Late-stage breast cancer is more difficult to treat. If you’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer, our cancer care team will discuss your treatment options with you. You will receive personal, evidence-based treatment tailored to your type and stage of breast cancer.

CYBERKNIFE

Cyberknife offers an innovative and evidence based treatment alternative for a variety of tumors throughout the body. Patient movement is automatically detected and corrected up to sub-millimetre accuracy. Using this ultra fast correction technology it is possible to provide high precision radiosurgical treatment of tumors without invasive fixing of the head or other regions of the body. It is used to treat conditions throughout the body, including the prostate, lung, brain, spine, head and neck, liver, pancreas and kidney, and can be an alternative to surgery or for patients who have inoperable or surgically complex tumors. Brain tumors, metatstatic brain tumors, selected solitary metastases without bony spinal cord compression, , primary treatment of classically radioresistant solitary tumors, i.e. melanoma, renal cell, and sarcoma, recurrent solitary metastases after conventional radiotherapy are the primary scope of treatment. The CyberKnife allows patients to lie comfortably on the procedure table without anesthesia while the robotic arm moves, without touching them, to treat all areas of the tumor. The robot moves and bends around the patient, to deliver radiation doses from potentially thousands of unique beam angles, significantly expanding the possible positions to concentrate radiation to the tumor while minimizing dose to surrounding healthy tissue. Recovery is often immediate, given its low risk of complications and damage to healthy tissue. We also perform cyberknife inbenign conditions: Meningioma, pituitary adenoma, acoustic neuroma, cranial nerve schwannomas, glomus Jugulare Tumors,mresidual/recurrent low-grade Astrocytoma oligodendroglioma, hemangioblastoma

Trigemial Neuralgia

CyberKnife radiosurgery is one of the most accurate treatment modalities for trigeminal neuralgia. The CyberKnife System works by delivering high doses of radiation to destroy the pain fibers in the nerve CyberKnife treatment requires no incisions or anesthetics, has a lower risk of side effects and is typically completed in just one pain-free treatment session. CyberKnife treatment for trigeminal neuralgia is performed as an outpatient procedure, without the use of an invasive head-frame.

Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy) is a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. The field of radiation oncology covers the integration of radiation therapy into multimodal treatment approaches in oncology. During this type of radiation, the high-energy beams come from a machine outside of your body that aims the beams at a precise point on your body. Radiation therapy damages cells by destroying the genetic material that controls how cells grow and divide. While both healthy and cancerous cells are damaged by radiation therapy, the goal of radiation therapy is to destroy as few normal, healthy cells as possible. Normal cells can often repair much of the damage caused by radiation Radiation may be used alone or with other treatments, such as surgery, chemotherapy, hormones, or targeted therapy. If your treatment plan includes radiation therapy, knowing how it works and what to expect can often help you prepare for treatment and make informed decisions about your care. Radiotherapy may be used in the early stages of cancer or after it has started to spread. Radiotherapy can be used to:

  • Try to cure the cancer completely (curative radiotherapy)
  • Make other treatments more effective – for example, it can be combined with chemotherapy or used before surgery (neo-adjuvant radiotherapy)
  • Reduce the risk of the cancer coming back after surgery (adjuvant radiotherapy)
  • Relieve symptoms if a cure is not possible (palliative radiotherapy)

Radiotherapy is usually given in hospital. You can usually go home soon after external radiotherapy, but you may need to stay in hospital for a few days if you have implants or radioisotope therapy.
